Interview with Bo
Cantrell
September 14, 2005
This interview is with King of the Cage Heavyweight Fighter Bo Cantrell
(206lbs-264lbs) who is ranked the number 4 contender for the King of the
Cage Championship belt currently held by Paul Buentello. Bo will be fighting
October 29th in Reno Nevada against Mike Bourke and we will talk to Bo about
that match up later in the interview.
KM: KOTC has you ranked number 4 Contender for the
King of the Cage Championship belt currently held by Paul Buentello, how you
plan to become the number 1 contender?
BC: By Knocking out Mike Bourke and then beating everyone KOTC puts
in front of me
KM: What is your official record in MMA?
BC: 5 - Wins 3 - Loses
KM: Your next fight will be against Mike Bourke,
how do you see this fight going?
BC: I see myself knocking him out as he likes to bang and I feel I
hit harder then he does. I see this fight being over in the first round.
KM: When training for a fight, how many days and
hours do you train?
BC: 5 hours per day at least 5 days a week. 2 hours weight training
and 2-3 hours of sparring and rolling.
KM: What are your goals for your remaining MMA
career?
BC: To win King of the Cage World Title and then get a shot at Pride
KM: After your fight with Mike Bourke, who do you
want to fight next in KOTC?
BC: I think a good fight would be Jeff Newton the Karate guy as he
likes to stand and bang and that is what I am all about. I feel this would
be an interesting fight for the fans to watch.
KM: Who is your favorite fighter?
BC: Fedor from Pride as I think he is dangerous and exciting fighter
KM: What do you think of KOTC on PPV?
BC: It is great. I feel that KOTC has some of the best fighters in the
world, just look at who won the TUF show, two previous KOTC Fighters. The
thing about KOTC Heavyweight fighters is we get in the cage and bang and do
not go to the ground to much.
KM: Would you like to make the big money from the
fight game or a sponsor?
BC: Yes, I am always looking for sponsors as I would like to make
fighting my primary employment and be able to quit my Job, however without
sponsors this is not possible
KM: Are you single or Married? Do you have any
kids?
BC: I will be getting married two weeks before my fight against Mike
Bourke and I have a daughter named Lillian Cantrell
KM: What do you do for fun when you are not
training?
BC: Watch other fights and hanging out with my Daughter and
Girlfriend as Family is a must to have a good balance in my Life.
KM: Out of all your fights, who was the toughest to
beat?
BC: James Irvin in Gladiator Challenge was my toughest as I was very
cocky and underestimated him which I will never underestimate a fighter
again! He ended up catching me, however this is one of my favorite fights.
KM: Do you have any Sponsors?
BC: Booyaa Fight Wear, House of Chicken and Ribs, and Submit Fight
Clothing
KM: Do you have a Manager? Who are your Training
Coaches?
BC: Manager is Dave Huerta and Trainer is Dave Marinoboe
KM: What got you into MMA/NHB Fighting?
BC: Lou Russell needed me as a sparring partner for one of his
fighters and I did pretty well when sparring with the fighters as I already
had Marine Core training and I did pretty good so I just kept doing and
would like this to be my fulltime job someday, as I eat and sleep fighting!
KM: How did you get into KOTC?
BC: Ted Williams of the Gladiator Challenge got me started and
recognized my talents and gave me a shot at KOTC.
KM: Did you ever have underground fights before
getting into KOTC?
BC: Yes I had fights in Oregon in the underground before getting a
shot at the real shows.
KM: In school did you play any sports? Win any
Championships?
BC: Played basketball as I was a skinny tall kid, never won any
championships as my school sucked in sports.
KM: Do you think your average MMA fan is educated
on the Rules?
BC: I think the hardcore fan knows the rules, however the average fan
does not know and the sport is now being introduced to a whole different
type of fan so no not everyone know the rules
KM: What advice could you give to someone training
to become an MMA Fighter?
BC: Conditioning is the best advice I can give to anyone thinking of
doing any kind of fighting as if you are not in shape cardiovascular wise
then 3:00 minutes will seem like 30 minutes. Be patient do not rush into
fighting get some fights amateur first and take it seriously. Do not party
before your fights and stay 100% focused.
KM: Did you learn anything from your 3 loses?
BC: My ego got the best of me in a couple fights. I felt like I could
not get knocked out and because of this I pretty much just stood and got
knocked out instead of moving and getting my composer back. My defense has
got a lot better.
KM: On behalf of Krazy Mike's Korner, I want to
thank you for taking the time to do this interview. Would you like to give
any shout outs to anyone?
BC: I would like to Thank Krazy Mike and kingofthecage.com for taking
the time to do this interview. Most of all I want to thank the fans because
without the fans we have no fight organizations. My sponsors Booyaa Fight
Wear, House of Chicken and Ribs, Submit Fight Wear. My trainer Dave
Marinoboe. My manager Dave Huerta. My training partners James Irvine and
Urijah Faber.
