Interview with Nam Phan #2 Lightweight Contender
September 28, 2005

Nam PhanKM: Can you tell us when you will be fighting next and against whom?
NP: Well, I am not exactly sure who my next opponent will be, but I know that I will be fighting for King of the Cage on the Dec 2 fight card.

KM: Are you willing to fight anybody anytime?
NP: Of course I am a fighter and that's what I do is fight. I don't get to pick my opponents cause if I did they would be the smaller and lighter guys instead of me being the smaller and lighter fighter all the time. hahahah

KM: Do you fight as a fulltime job or do you have another job?
NP: Well, yes fighting I guess is my full time job other then coaching high school wrestling for Los Amigos High School in Fountain Valley. I am also a full time student at Cal State Fullerton and that is taking most of my time right now.

KM: What are your future MMA goals?
NP: Well I would to one-day fight and win the K.O.T.C. title. I would also like to compete in the light weight division in Japan.. After college I also plan to open my own MMA/BJJ School in the city of Westminster or Garden Grove.

KM: You seem to have several fans, how does that inspire you when your in the cage?
NP: That is a lot of pressure to have on my back because there are not that many Vietnamese fighters in MMA. It really motivates me to do my best because I want to make the Vietnamese community proud and I'm always trying to represent them in the best way possible.

KM: How many fights do you have in one year?
NP: hummmmm.. I try to have like only 3 or 4 fights a year, but this year in the Dec 2 fight will be my fifth fight of the year. I'm kind of pushing my limits this year, next year I will try not to fight as much because I need to study for school.

KM: You seem to have good stand up, do you like to stand and bang?
NP: Yes, I like to stand up with my opponents and bang with them. I figure that since I'm in a fight just go ALL BALLS OUT. If I get hit then I get hit, it's all part of the game. That I also this is more entertaining for the audience to watch and enjoy.

KM: Is there one particular fighter you would like to meet in the Cage?
NP: I don't have any fighter in mind that I'm aiming for. I would just like to fight the champion when I'm ready, so one day I can become champion.

KM: When did you first start fighting?
NP: I first started fighting when I became 18 years old. But I've been training in martial arts since I was 8 years old.

KM: What is your official MMA record?
NP: 12 Wins 1 Loss

KM: When you're not training for a fight, what do you like to do for fun?
NP: I like to play pool , surf , hang out with my good friends that are really close to me and also spend time with my Vietnamese princess

KM: Are you married or single? Any Kids?
NP: I'm not married, but I have a loving Vietnamese girlfriend and sometimes it seems like we're married even though we're not. I don't have any kids yet and I hope I don't have any kids for a while until the time is right.

KM: Who is your favorite fighter?
NP: Man of course my favorite fighter is Kazushi Sakuraba. He has the sickest technique. I think another great fighter is Bao Quach, he is another Vietnamese fighter and my good friend.

KM: I would like to thank you on behalf of kingofthecage.com and Krazy Mike's Korner for taking the time to do this interview and wish you luck in your fight tonight. In closing would you like to add anything?
NP: Yeah I just to thank kotc and krazy mike for giving me this interview. I would also like to thank my fans for all of their support because they are my inspiration. I would also like to thank my trainers Art James from Team Punch Out and the whole Punch Out team, Jeremy Williams and Rick Estrada from Apex jiu jitsu and special thanks to Rick Estrada for showing me the way of Rick jitsu, Marcio Feitosa from Gracie Barra USA, and the whole Ma Du Entertainment crew for all of the hard work.I would like to thank my sponsors : NorthStar, OC Tattoo.com, sickenlaw, Café PM, 7 stars karaoke, subfighter.com, albaproembroidery.com , and Constellation Stereo( 714 )531-2484 and last Terry Treblicock for the chance to fight in KOTC.
