"Wildman" Denny Interview:
King of the Cage Soboba Casino September 26, 2005
by Krazy Mike
Check Out
James Fanshier Interview
KOTC Welterweight Class (170lb) # 1 Contender
KM: You recently lost a chance to become the KOTC
Welterweight Champion against James Fanshier and you have a rematch coming
up December 2, 2005 at the Soboba Casino. Will you put up your fight purse
against Fanshier's Fight Purse? Fanshier told me he would put his fight
purse and his two belts KOTC and Gladiator Challenge up.
TD: He's put up his belt. We'll take that challenge. He's putting up his
Purse, well the guy makes peanuts. What do I gain out of making peanuts? Why
am I going to put my purse up? That would be like trading my Ferrari for a
VW Bug, it makes no sense. He's getting in the ring and he's going to fight
me. If it's about money, I think he should make it about Honor. In his heart
he knows, with honor he lost the fight.
KM: Do you feel Fanshier's punch that landed at the
end of the first round was the difference in the first fight?
TD: I didn't really recover? I don't know if you saw the second round.
I completely dominated the fight, I went for submission after submission,
had his back, I mounted him, had side mount on him. And that was being
unconscious, so imagine what I'll do on the next fight. The third round I
completely won. He didn't do any thing in the third round, except run. He
didn't want to engage, just wanted to hold the whole time. As far as
scoring, this isn't boxing, we don't get standing eight counts so you can't
really give someone a knock-down point for a knock-down, if you can't get a
standing eight count out of it. So, do I feel that his punch was the
difference? Maybe in his eyes it was.
KM: You and Fanshier have had a rematch scheduled
several times due to injuries, are you healthy now?
TD: That is false information. Wherever you got that information from,
it is wrong. In the first rematch it was a Gladiator Challenge. I do not
fight for Gladiator Challenge, nor have I ever agreed to a Gladiator
Challenge Fight. I fight strictly for King of the Cage. So the rematch is on
him, he's the one that hurt himself and pulled out of the fight. I don't
fight for Gladiator Challenge, he might, but I don't.
KM: Who is your Favorite Fighter?
TD: Takanoemi Gomi
KM: How do you see the rematch going? Will it go to
the ground or do you want to stand and bang like the first fight?
TD: I guess I'm going to see it like the first one, and he's going to
completely dominate me in every aspect. I think he said that I'm going to
get knocked out, so I guess I'm getting knocked out.
KM: Did you train any different for the rematch?
TD: (Laughs) Man, am I going to tell you all of my secrets? Just put it
this way, the rematch will be nothing like the first fight, pay attention.
KM: What color will your hair be?
TD: Krazy Mike, you always try to get me to tell you the color of my
hair, however that just would not be like the "Wildman". Come to the show
and see me win the belt and you will see the color of my hair.
KM: Is fighting your full time job? Do you have
another job?
TD: At the Universal Training Facility, you come, you pay some money,
and you get the best workout you ever had. We're up in Victorville, we've
been open about 3 ½ years now. We have well over 100 students, and about 21
fighters coming up. Get on our web site www.thomasdenny.com, you can get
some contact information and read a little more about it. Come out and see
us. If you're ever in town and you want to check out a gym, come on by and
we'll get you some training.
KM: What are your remaining MMA goals?
TD: To stay healthy, injury free and to impress those little kids. Keep
those little kids coming over and asking me for my autograph, that's my
drive. Seeing those little kids smile and saying The Wild Man. Like today I
was stopped at a gas station and a kid jumped out of a car and came up and
asked if The Wild Man was in the car. I told him, " son, you're looking at
The Wild Man." He says, "Oh man, can I get your autograph!?" That's what my
goals are, to keep those kids glowing, so that they can grow up to be future
champions.
KM: What is your official MMA record?
TD: 32 Wins 9 Loses
KM: Out of your 32 Wins, which fight was the
toughest to Win?
TD: Dave Garcia was the toughest fight that I have won.
KM: How did you get into Cage Fighting?
TD: Joe Rule Landi
KM: Are you married or single? Any Kids?
TD: I am married to my beautiful Wife Tiffany.
Two Kids Suggie (Aka Katerina) and Alexie
KM: Do you think your kids will ever follow in your
footsteps and fight?
TD: Hell No!
KM: You like to stick your tongue out and climb to
the top of the cage and sit after a win, is this your trademark?
TD: I get filled with so much emotion, accomplishing another goal by
getting another win and just thinking about all the kids that are behind me.
All the Down Syndrome children that I am working with that support me.
Anyone in general that sticks behind me and keeps The Wild Man going, it's
for them, it's not just for me. I get filled with joy and whatever comes
out, comes out.
KM: Do you have a manager?
TD: Thomas Denny www.thomasdenny.com
KM: Do you have a trainer?
TD: Thomas Denny www.thomasdenny.com
KM: Does your camp have any up and coming MMA
Fighters?
TD: Dave Kelly, Sous Infante, Kykilla York.
KM: I would like to thank you on behalf of
KingoftheCage.com and Krazy Mike's Korner for taking the time to do this
interview. In closing would you like to add anything?
TD: Krazy Mike for the interview, cool web site bro! My Wife Tiffany!
